What grade are we in??
I have come home crying more than once this quarter because the girls at school were being mean. Really?? Maybe it's that I'm overly sensitive, or maybe it's that I've never had classmates that would yell at me or call me a bitch. Regardless, I think we're a little old for this. We are in grad school people! We are all cruisin on the same stressful boat.

Lots of Spaghetti
Friday, we took our class along with the four other 2nd/3rd grade classes downtown for a field trip. We went to LoDo for a walking tour given by the Denver Historical Society (because we've been studying Denver history) then followed that with lunch at the Spaghetti Factory. We were 178 people strong--including parent volunteers.
For those that know me well, you know that I do not enjoy large groups. At all. I am definitely an outgoing person that loves working with young people, but large groups overwhelm me. This trip was a definite challenge. One little boy got mad at me and tried to shove me in the street, but that was the worst of it. Most of the kids were really well behaved; though they were fascinated with picking as much litter off of the streets as they could. Scrumptious!
It continues to amaze me how much energy it takes to do this. You'd think I'd be used to it by now. I totally love it, but will be SO glad to be done :).

By the way, did you see Jeremy Abbott's performance?!! Oh my goodness, I was seriously welling up as he finished--what an accomplishment!

Encouraging words from KY
Comments like: "my bunk mate threatened to rip my head off if I get up early again" and "I'm standing in my locker with the door held shut with my knee so I can write" lead me to believe that he may not be having the time of his life....
Send him a note, if you get a chance:

Got milk?
I think it may be time for me to stop ignoring the fact that I'm lactose intolerant. This is just painful.
I live with someone like this.
"A true friend is one who is concerned about what we are becoming, who sees beyond the present relationship and cares deeply about us as a whole person."

Are you a grown up?
Franna: Are you a grown up? Because your room doesn't look like it.
Me: What about my room doesn't look grown up?
F: Well, you have a desk a teenager would have. And I know that teenagers have skate boards too. And your bike is IN YOUR ROOM.
Me: Yeah, well, I'm not in a hurry to be a grown-up.
F: I totally understand! I don't want to grow up except to be a doctor.

Babysitting
I know I signed up to live with a baby, and I knew when I did that it would come with a lot of work and sacrifice. I am spread a little thin right now, though, and playing the "how to keep Cameron from screaming" game was a little more than I could handle tonight.
I am so tired.

The things you learn...
Science fairs are an excellent opportunity to see the work your student's parents and siblings can do. HA. My kids really took ownership of there presentations though, and my goodness-- the ideas they came up with!
I now know that:
- jello made with urine, Guiness, or tonic glows under a black light
- if you put a Mento in a bottle of coke it'll burst
- yeast eats Stevia
- long paper airplanes fly the farthest
- oranges can grow a lot of mold
- home-made water purification systems don't guarantee potable water
- it's not a good idea to assign a science fair projects over winter break if you can avoid it
Feeling Old
Making coffee by 5:00 AM and putting together last minute lesson ideas and letters home to parents. Limping down the hallways on a sore foot asking rosy cheeked little people to "please walk." Ready for a nap at 10:00 AM. Making two trips in a row to the office because I forgot what I went down there for in the first place. Forgetting my spoon at home, and tipping my head as far back as I can to gulp down my yogurt before retrieving the little ones for inside recess. Reading my book at the gym. Having a cup of tea before my eyelids start drooping at 9:00 pm. Laying down and realizing how sore and tired my body is.
It is totally worth it for the joy it brings, but man it makes me feel old.

My Day
Saturday was my day. Yup. All of it was mine to do as I pleased. I had no set schedule, and no obligations or commitments. I will not be getting another like it for quite some time, so I made sure to take full advantage!
I read, baked, wrote, played my guitar, and took my new bicycle out for an amazing ride. We went down to Cherry Creek, then downtown, then back through the first neighborhood in Denver I lived in, and finally through Wash Park on my way home. It was absolutely magical. I was in absolutely no rush, and the bike is so comfortable that I just cruised around with a huge grin on my face (I had to pick the bugs out of my teeth when I got home.) But just because things always have to be kept interesting, when I pulled up to my building, I heard air leaking. I looked down, and sure enough, I had a screw puncturing my tire. There is still a lot of snow packed on the roads and paths, and it must have been hiding in some waiting for me to run over it. Ha. But, 20 minutes later I was in and out of the bike shop with a new tube and a tire good as new-- not before the mechanic gave me a hard time, though :).
I enjoyed spending the evening with two of my closest friends, listening to how they have grown and giggling with excitement and anticipation for what this year will bring.
It was a good, good day.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
They started at 4 a.m. this morning. It was a steady banging. I thought it was some drunk DU kids being destructive. I put my pillow over my head, but the loudness didn't allow me to fall back asleep. I put on my glasses and looked out the window to see that it was a construction crew. They are rebuilding the railing on University right outside my apartment. So, they have spent the last four hours destroying it and depriving me of any chance to sleep.
Night construction is supposed help avoid causing traffic issues during the day, but don't they take into consideration that loud smashing and beeping trucks in the middle of a neighborhood may not be the most considerate of things?? They're still going at it, so I've surrendered and am off to make a pot of coffee. Ha.
